In central Arizona, Scottsdale is nestled in the stunning Sonoran Desert. Scottsdale is also part of the greater Phoenix area, about 12 miles away from the city. Arizona is well known as a destination for golfers of all calibers, which is no surprise considering the greatest Phoenix area boasts more than 200 golf courses. The area is often called Golfer’s Paradise and Scottsdale itself has been slated as “America’s Best Place to Live for Golf.” Arizona is also home to outstanding walking trails in addition to public bike paths and shared hiking, riding, and horse trails. Baseball Spring Training camp is a large event that takes place in Scottsdale, hosting fans and teams annually. Additionally, nearby Phoenix is home to professional sports teams like the Phoenix Cardinals, the Arizona Coyotes, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Arizona Suns. In addition to 30 public golf courses and private golf clubs, Scottsdale also hosts many unique eateries. You will likely be able to find any cuisine you wish from are favorites Southwestern and Mexican at all price ranges to nationally recognized five star restaurants. Central Scottsdale, North Scottsdale, and Old Town are distinct neighborhoods in Scottsdale, each providing a different experience. Central Scottsdale has many housing developments including a luxury condominium community. Many of these communities overlook Lake Serena. This area also provides a variety of dining and shopping destinations, particularly in the Kierland neighborhood. This area also hosts the School of Architecture at Taliesin, which was founded by Frank Lloyd Wright. North Scottsdale is another area that has been quickly developing over the past few years. The 101 Freeway allows easy access to all of the activities in the area, including golfing, shopping, and dining. As you move further north, the area is less developed than the rest of Scottsdale and allows unobstructed desert views. The majority of luxury private golf communities are located in North Scottsdale. Old Town is the original downtown area of Scottsdale, maintaining the character of small storefronts and narrow streets. It has also become a champion of the local art community. For example, on Thursday evenings the local galleries stay open later for the Art Walk. Old Town also hosts many boutiques and unique dining options. Here you can also indulge your history loving side by visiting the Scottsdale Museum of the West, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, or the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall which hosts culture and food events throughout the year. There is also great shopping in Old Town, with the Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall and the Scottsdale Waterfront. The Scottsdale Waterfront is not only a great shopping destination, but also for dining and entertainment.
